University ready for Road Rally
By Shane Free, Herald Staff
 Tonight
will mark the first of nine scheduled ASU Road Rallies to be held across
the state.
 Tonight's
meeting will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Jonesboro Chamber
of Commerce.
 Students,
parents, faculty and alumni will attend each rally with ASU President Dr.
Les Wyatt. The purpose of the meetings is to provide information to prospective
students and their parents about life at ASU, Wyatt said.
 The
rallies will also be used to bolster alumni relations and to meet with
potential contributors to the university.
 Last
spring, the first ASU Road Rally was held in Little Rock, and many people
attended. However, because the rallies were held late in the academic year,
many of the prospective students had already chosen a college.
 Wyatt
said the rallies are expected to be more prosperous for ASU this year because
they will begin in the fall when most high school seniors are determining
their post-graduation plans.
 There
are three more meetings scheduled for the fall and five for the spring
that will be held in larger cities like West Memphis and Little Rock.
 "(The
meetings) will be held in a fairly prominent location in each of these
cities," Wyatt said.
 ASU
students selected to attend the Road Rallies are involved in campus activities
and organizations and will be able to answer questions about the university.
A parent of a current ASU student will be present to speak with parents
who attend.
 Representatives
from student support groups will be available to answer questions about
issues such as housing, financial aid and food services.
 Wyatt
said he believes this year's Road Rallies will be successful, and the effort
will continue in the future.
